I once had to introduce myself to a roomful of students at a writing workshop. As I waited my turn, I anxiously racked my brain for something to say that would interest a bunch of middle schoolers. I didn't want to be boring adult, listing my credentials like a talking resume. All I could think to do was tell them about my latest project.
"Hi! My name is Heather Schwartz. I'm a writer, and I just finished two books for Disney."
I heard excited gasps from the audience. "Disney!" someone said.
I was surprised. For some reason, it had never occurred to me that kids might be interested to know I wrote for Disney. Duh!
Needless to say, I was encouraged and excited by this response!
